Rothberg Returns!
Talk about your new band members (and the old ones!) and how you all got together. The most recent line up, and that which played on the cd was Freddie Katz on guitar and production, Lori Adams on bass and Yves Gerard on drums. I played rhythm guitar for all the live tracking. Leads were overdubbed later, and played by both me and Freddie, as needed. With this line-up we played many gigs, in NYC, and places like New Hampshire and other East Coast venues. We had JP "Thunderbolt" Patterson (Dictators, Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black) playing with us for a few shows more recently. Soon we will be playing again to support the new CD, and this will be a larger tour, spanning more of the map than previously. All of the aforementioned are SUPERB musicians and worthy of intense praise!! Who are your musical influences, and who are some current artists you enjoy? My musical influences are truly too vast to list, although it's always fun to try! I grew up (and still listen to) Classic rock, The Kinks, The Who, Todd Rundgren, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac etc. I also really love dark bands like Nick Cave, Siouxsie and The Banshees, and light ones like The Violent Femmes. Or, dark/light ones like Nick Drake. Right now, Freddie works at the Fez (a great nightclub in NYC) so I've seen some amazing new talent and since become nearly obsessed with their music. Such are Kiki and Herb, Spottiswoode (and His Enemies). I also love Maggie Estep and John S. Hall, who I saw last night in a stellar performance with his band King Missile III at Brownies! Does your new CD feature any of your artwork? Yes! The CD booklet is a 12 page testimony to my love of Pre-Raphaelite imagery and painting in general. There's also spoofs and humor, and LOTS of word games, not to mention new photographs! (The cover is a re-enactment of a famous J.W. Waterhouse painting with me as the Lady of Shallot). Music critics love to compare one artist to another. I've read reviews comparing you to everybody from Alanis to Janis Joplin. If you were a critic, with who would you compare Patti Rothberg? If I were a critic, I'd compare myself with all
