Eve – Scorpion

Her first CD hit the top of the charts, and Scorpion should do the same. Philly’s self described “pit bull in a skirt” is back with another dose of in your face lyrics, bouncing beats, and plenty of attitude. Eve has plenty of help on her sophomore CD, including super producer Dr. Dre, No Doubt’s Gwen Stefani, Teena Marie, Da Brat, DMX and several others. Scorpion’s music makes you wanna hit the dance floor, and the lyrics make you think, because Eve deals with real issues in her songs. In addition to her smooth rap skills, Eve has a good singing voice, too. Scorpion firmly establishes Eve has one of today’s premier hip-hop artists.

Nick Gilder – Hot Child In The City (Best of)

You probably remember the song “Hot Child In The City” from 1978. That was the androgynous sounding Nick Gilder’s only big hit, but definitely not his only good song. He was part of the glam exposion of the 70’s along with David Bowie and Marc Bolan. I’m not sure why he didn’t have more hits, because the songs on Hot Child In The City are well crafted and have hooks galore. Gilder was also a songwriter for many other artists throughout the 80’s, including Scandal’s huge hit “The Warrior.” He was often overlooked during his era, but it’s time to appreciate the great music he has recorded.
