Welcome to the August CD Reviews. Over 100 new CDs are listened to and considered for review each month, but only the best make the cut and are featured on the Pop Music Site. It doesn't matter if it's on a major label, independent label, or no label at all, it's the quality of the music that matters. If you're a musician, manager, record company or public relations company and would like your CD considered for review, email for details. Here are this month's reviews, in alphabetical order:
Debbie Andrews - Suburbs of Eden
Debbie Andrews is a very talented artist. Her latest CD Suburbs of Eden is filled with powerfully written emotional songs delivered with a pop sensibility. Andrews is a classically trained pianist, and the songs on this CD are primarily piano based with a hint of jazz. She cites Steely Dan member Donald Fagen as an influence, and you can hear it in the song structures. Visit her official website for more info: http://www.debbieandrews.com
Babylon A.D. - American Blitzkrieg
The Bay Area hard rock band Babylon A.D. are back with their first CD of new material since 1992, and sounding better than ever. American Blitzkrieg is packed with driving guitars, passion, aggression and angst filled apocalyptic lyrics. The epic title track mixes in a portion of Edwin Starr's "War", which helps the song really stand out. The whole CD really rocks, and it's great to have Babylon A.D. back on the hard rock music scene again. The band's official website has audio and video clips: http://www.babylonad.com
Cinderella - The Millennium Collection
Tom Kiefer has one of the most distinctive voices in heavy metal. Cinderella was one of the most popular "hair bands" of the late 80's and early 90's with three multi-platinum albums and several Top 40 hits. The grunge revolution killed Cinderella and most other bands of that genre, and the band broke up in 1994. The band got back together in 1997 and is in the process of recording new material. Cinderella is on Poison's "Power to the People" tour this summer, playing to packed houses. Hair bands like Cinderella are finally starting to get the respect they deserve. http://www.cinderella.net is the band's official home page.
Cleopatra - Steppin' Out
The British R&B trio Cleopatra do not sound like they are teenagers. The three Higgins sisters have grown up since their debut release three years ago and Steppin' Out is a mature and polished CD. Cleopatra's sound has moved away from Britney Spears territory and directly into TLC's domain. The group co-wrote nearly every song on the CD, and the production and arrangements are impeccable. Cleopatra is here to stay. They write their own songs, have great voices, and their music has a style and sound that is destined for the top of the charts.
