Frampton Albums Available on CD for the First TimePeter Frampton was one of the biggest artists of the 1970's. His Frampton Comes Alive record is the biggest selling live album in history, having sold over 16 million copies. Five of his 70's CDs have been remastered and four of them are being released on CD for the first time. Frampton and I'm In You were released August 1st. Wind of Change, Frampton's Camel and Somethin's Happening have a release date of August 22nd. Frampton, a native of Beckingham, England, began his musical career at the age of 10. His band played at school on the same bill as young David Bowie's band. Bowie was a childhood friend of Frampton, and was a student of Peter's dad, an art teacher. At the tender age of 16 Frampton's latest band, The Herd, had several British pop hits in the late 60's, and Frampton became a teen idol. In 1969 Frampton and Steve Marriott started Humble Pie. Frampton recorded 5 albums with Humble Pie. The group continued without him and released several albums. At the beginning of the 1990's, Frampton and Marriott made plans to work together again. They recorded 3 songs together and planned to go on tour once a full album was completed, but Marriott tragically died in a fire in 1991.
In 1971 Frampton left Humble Pie and released his first solo album, Wind of Change, now available on CD. It didn't make a huge dent in the sales charts.
His second solo album, Frampton's Camel, marked Frampton's entry into the "arena rock" sound which became so popular. The album was named after his touring band. It also featured the song "Do You Feel Like I Do." The live version of that song became a Top 10 hit a few years later on Frampton Comes Alive. Frampton's Camel is also now available on CD, as is his third solo record, 1974's Somethin's Happening.
1975 brought Frampton his first taste of solo success. Frampton went to number 32 on the US charts and went gold. It was previously remastered and released on CD, and was reissued on August 1st.
Frampton Comes Alive was released in 1976 and shot Frampton into superstardom. He was named Rolling Stone's Artist of the Year and won many other award. Frampton Comes Alive will be re-released later this year in an expanded edition. His follow up, 1977's I'm In You went platinum and climbed to number 2 on the album charts. The album's title track also made it to number 2 on the singles chart. Even though it sold over a million copies, I'm In You was a failure compared to his previous album, and is finally being released on CD for the first time.
