July 2000 CD Reviews (Artists L-Z)

Paul Rodgers - Electric

Paul Rodgers is one of classic rock's preeminent vocalists. He was in the band Free with Eric Clapton back in the 60's, and then formed Bad Company, who have sold millions of records over the years. Rodgers' latest solo effort, Electric proves he is still relevant in the rock world. There is a definite blues influence on this CD, along with straight ahead rock and roll. There is no mistaking Rodgers' distinctive vocal stylings. He has earned the nickname "The Voice", and sounds great on this CD. Check out his official website: http://www.paulrodgers.com

RPM 2000 - Peace In The City

RPM 2000 is a smooth sounding R&B trio from Los Angeles. They have some big names contributing to their debut CD, like Babyface and Teddy Riley. The group has a sound comparable to Boyz II Men mixed with Blackstreet. Their songs have some sweet and smooth harmonies. The CD has several ballads, but there are a couple harder edged hip-hop influenced tracks as well. It's a promising debut CD, and the group's name, RPM, which stands for Reaching People's Minds, is very appropriate because their music definitely does that.

Snake River Conspiracy - Sonic Jihad

Snake River Conspiracy is a duo made up of former Third Eye Blind member Jason Slater and lead vocalist Tobey Torres. The best way to describe the group is a heavier version of Garbage, and Torres is a lot angrier than Shirley Manson is. The CD is intense, with elements of metal, industrial, rock and pop. There's also a really cool version of the Cure's "Lovesong". For more info, visit http://www.repriserec.com/src

Somethin' For The People - Issues

Issues is hip-hop at its finest. The trio segues smoothly from slow jams to party anthems and everything in between. The members of Somethin' For The People are one of the hottest writing and production teams in the business, having written and produced songs for Will Smith, Terry Dexter and Eric Benet. The CD is well produced with just the right mix of smooth R&B and nasty hip-hop. There are a lot of guest singers and rappers, which add to the diversity of this very excellent CD.

Tears For Fears - The Best of Tears For Fears Millennium Collection

Tears For Fears was one of the pioneers of "alternative pop" in the early 1980's. This collection showcases their #1
