July 2000 CD Reviews (Artists A-K)

Deckard is a Scottish modern rock band making their US full length debut. The band is named after the replicant hunting hero of the movie Bladerunner. Stereodreamscene is a worthy debut CD. It takes the listener on a ride from pop to classic rock to hard rock to soft rock and back again. It's an enjoyable ride with many changes in attitude, mood, tempo and emotion. It's hard to say exactly who Deckard sounds like, but you can hear influences from the Beatles, Radiohead and Smashing Pumpkins. For more info, visit http://www.deckardonline.com

Firehouse - Bring Em Out Live

Firehouse was one of the most talented "hair metal" bands of the late 80's and early 90's, with several radio hits and best selling albums. Firehouse's brand of metal seems to be making a comeback, and this CD shows why. Former Veruca Salt member Nina Gordon has delivered a spectacular debut solo CD. Gordon was the more pop oriented member of Veruca Salt, and her pop sensibilities shine through on this CD. She is an excellent songwriter, weaving complex and interesting storylines over catchy melodies of many different styles and delivers a powerful vocal performance. Tonight And The Rest Of My Life is one of the best CDs released so far this year. To learn more, visit http://www.ninagordon.com

Halford - Resurrection

Rob Halford is the former lead singer of Judas Priest, and the name of his latest solo CD is perfect. After experimenting with industrial music, he is back to his metal roots. Priest fans will recognize Halford's trademark high-pitched vocals. New fans will dig the riff-heavy guitar tracks and aggressive style. Rob Halford has one of the most powerful and recognizable voices in metal, and his songwriting skills shine on Resurrection as well. For more info, see http://www.robhalford.com
