Interview with C.P. Roth of Blessid Union of Souls (Part 2)

What is your take on Napster?

Don't like 'em. But what can you do? This is just the tip of the iceberg. Once everyone gets up and running with ultra high speed connections to the web, things are really gonna get interesting with streaming movies at DVD resolutions and getting authorized (not the dreaded cracked) software for free. Cause really, who really gives a fat baby's ass about the artists or executives of the music biz? It's been a poor cousin to things like video games for 2 decades now, and has done itself no favors in the marketing and imaging of it's biggest acts. So whatever the final deal is going to be about all the "acquiring" of free media, the battle won't be over music. And in the end the bands and the fans will get screwed. Viva la revolution!

Talk about the new album and when it will be released.

We're still writing and recording the new stuff for the greatest hits album, which we think will be out in the fall. Here's what will be on it: All 9 singles including the "new" version of "That's The Girl" and the live version of "Hey Leonardo". Also we finally got to record the fast version of "I Believe" so that will be on there as well along with 2-3 new things!

Blessid Union of Souls has a few tour dates this summer. When will you go on a full-scale tour again?

We're basically doing Weekend Warrior stuff right now in deference to the writing. Look for full time stuff to kick back up in the fall, but do check out http://www.blessidunion.com for new shows in your area! We'll get there eventually!

What music are you currently listening to?

I'm diggin the Basement Jaxx and Groove Armada records a lot, and my all time faves...XTC! Plus, my wife just brought home a double CD set of the best of ELO. Brilliant stuff there, but none of the things from Xanadu are on it...Bummer!

Anything else you want to plug, comment on or mention?

Come to the web site and come to our shows! And if you're in the New York City area (and over 21!) on Monday nights, come to see yours truly at Manitoba's on Ave. B @ 6th St. with Beat Rodeo (10PM-midnite). And it's FREEEEEE!

That wraps up my interview with the colorful and always quotable C.P. Roth. What did you think of C.P.'s comments and views? Start a discussion below:
