Britney Does It Again

Teen queen Britney Spears is continuing her reign with the release of her second CD, Ooops!..I Did It Again on May 16th. The 18 year old's debut, Baby One More Time has sold over 12 million copies and counting. It spawned four hit singles and MTV videos. Spears is the youngest artist in history to have a Diamond certified album for sales of at least 10 million. Her only disappointment was losing the Best New Artist Grammy to Christina Aguilera. The success continues with the release of the album's self titled first single. "Oops, I Did It Again" has become the most added track in pop radio history. The single, which was added to the playlists of 155 radio stations last week, broke the record for most additions in a single week.

It's been an unbelievable couple of years for the Kentwood, Louisiana teenager. Spears has been performing since early childhood in church choirs and dance reviews. She spent three summers in New York City studying at the Professional Performing Arts School. She appeared in some off-Broadway shows and national TV commercials.

Britney's big break came at the ripe old age of 11. She was chosen as a Mouseketeer. She appeared on the show for two years, along with some other famous names like Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake.

In preparation for the release of Ooops!...I Did It Again, Spears is on a worldwide promotional tour. Last week she appeared in Tokyo and performed in front of a couple thousand fans and media from all over Asia. Britney was happy with the results. "This is the first time I've performed a show outside the US, and it's great to see that all of my fans in Asia know the words to my songs. The people here are wonderful."

Britney has been helping the local economy on her promotional tour. In London she reportedly spent over $20,000 in 45 minutes during a shopping spree. According to sources, some of her purchases included a set of four matching Tiffany necklaces, seven pairs of designer shoes and perfume and toys for her nine-year-old sister.

In addition to being an actress and singer, Britney is now an author. She recently wrote a book with her mom, Lynne, called "Britney Spears' Heart to Heart". The book talks about her life in the studio, on the road, and at home. It won't win any Pulitzer Prizes, but the book will be enjoyed by hardcore fans.
