2000 Grammy Awards Preview and Review (Updated after the awards)

Best Pop Album
Backstreet Boys - Millennium
Cher - Believe
Ricky Martin - Ricky Martin
Sarah McLachlan - Mirrorball
Sting - Brand New Day

Cher is the sentimental favorite, but I think the Backstreet Boys will win, because their album has so many hit singles.

Winner: Sting - Brand New Day

Best Female Rock Vocal Performance
Tori Amos - Bliss
Sheryl Crow - Sweet Child O' Mine
Ani DiFranco - Jukebox
Melissa Ethridge - Angels Would Fall
Sarah McLachlan - Possession(Live)

If the Grammy voters were hip, which they're not, they would pick Ani DiFranco. Instead, look for Sheryl Crow to add to her pile of Grammys.

Winner: Sheryl Crow - Sweet Child O' Mine

Best Male Rock Vocal Performance
Chris Cornell - Can't Change Me
Everlast - What It's Like
Lenny Kravitz - American Woman
Bruce Springsteen - The Promise
Tom Waits - Hold On

Springsteen and Waits give great performances, but I think Lenny Kravitz wins because of the familiarity factor of the song.

Winner: Lenny Kravitz - American Woman

Best Rock Album
Melissa Etheridge - Breakdown
Limp Bizkit - Significant Other
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Echo
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication
Santana - Supernatural

No contest here. Santana wins easily.

Winner: Santana - Supernatural

Post Grammy Update
It was a memorable Grammy 2000! Santana was the big winner with 8 Grammys. The most memorable moment was Jennifer Lopez and her dress. Best performances: Backstreet Boys, Kid Rock, Elton John with Backstreet Boys. Worst performance: Those fiddle guys.

Host Rosie O'Donnell was her usual annoying self, with her horrendous attempts at singing. She was tolerable at best as the host. It was amusing when Whitney Houston flipped her off after Rosie made a reference to Whitney's pot incident in Hawaii. Another strange thing was having 3 presenters for most awards, which made things kind of awkward. 1 or 2 presenters would work much better.

My predictions ended up fairly well. I got 6 out of 10 correct. 3 out of the 4 I missed would be considered upsets, with the lone exception being Record of the Year. What is your reaction to the 2000 Grammys? Join in the discussion below.
