The 42nd annual Grammy Awards will be held Wednesday, February 23rd, on CBS. It's going to be a star filled night. Performers at the awards show include Backstreet Boys, TLC, Ricky Martin, Dixie Chicks, Whitney Houston, Kid Rock, Britney Spears and Faith Hill. Grammy Award presenters include Christina Aguilera, Mary J. Blige, Neil Diamond, Gloria Estefan, Vince Gill and Jennifer Lopez.

Here are some of the nominees in the pop/rock genre, and my predictions and comments:

Record of the Year
Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way
Cher - Believe
Ricky Martin - Livin' La Vida Loca
Santana - Smooth
TLC - No Scrubs

Ricky Martin wins this one. You couldn't turn on a radio in 1999 without hearing that song.

Winner: Santana - Smooth
I should have known better than to pick against Santana!

Album Of The Year
Backstreet Boys - Millennium
Dixie Chicks - Fly
Diana Krall - When I Look In Your Eyes
Santana - Supernatural
TLC - Fanmail

Who is Diana Krall, and how in the world did she get nominated in this category? The Grammy voters love Carlos Santana, and this will be one of the many awards he wins. This is a sure bet.

Winner: Santana

Song Of The Year
I Want It That Way
Livin' La Vida Loca
Smooth
Unpretty
You've Got A Way

This is a songwriter's award, not an artist's award. I have a feeling Smooth will win here. It was written by Rob Thomas from Matchbox 20 and Itaal Shur.
Winner: Smooth

Best New Artist
Christina Aguilera
Macy Gray
Kid Rock
Britney Spears
Susan Tedeschi

I guess I need to get out more, but I have never heard of Susan Tedeschi either. The critics love Macy Gray, so she's got a really good chance at this award, but I think Britneymania will prevail and Britney Spears takes this award home.

Winner: Christina Aguilera
This was a big upset. She didn't even expect to win, and didn't have a speech prepared!

Best Female Pop Vocal Performance
Christina Aguilera - Genie In A Bottle
Madonna - Beautiful Stranger
Sarah McLachlan - I Will Remember You
Alanis Morissette - Thank U
Britney Spears - Baby One More Time

This category is a tossup. I wouldn't be surprised if any of the nominees won, but I'm going with Sarah McLachlan in a squeaker over Madonna.

Winner: Sarah McLachlan

Best Male Pop Vocal Performance
Marc Anthony - I Need To Know
Lou Bega - Mambo No. 5
Andrea Bocelli - Sogno
Ricky Martin - Livin' La Vida Loca
Sting - Brand New Day

In a battle of Latin heartthrobs, Ricky Martin gets the nod over Marc Anthony.

Winner: Sting
Sting is one of my favorite artists, and it was a pleasant surprise to see him win this award and pop album of the year

Somehow we were on the same wavelength about the Grammy winners. I had a feeling that Sheryl Crow would win, for instance, even though she did that atrocious cover of "Sweet Child." I don't know why I ...
