Best of 1999

Robin Wilson, former lead singer of the Gin Blossoms fronts this band, and they sound exactly like the Blossoms.

11. Sting - Brand New Day

This is his most diverse solo release and one of his best.

10. Cranberries - Bury The Hatchet

This CD got some bad reviews because they said Delores isn't as angry as she used to be. The lyrics aren't as angry, but the melodies are as strong as they've ever been.

9. Tonic - Sugar

You can hear their hit single "You Wanted More" on the American Pie soundtrack, but you need to buy the whole CD. This is one of the most talented rock bands out there.

8. Bif Naked - I Bificus

She is scary looking, but sings beautifully. Her music rocks, and was one of the most overlooked releases of 1999.

7. Sarah McLachlan - Mirrorball

Her voice is amazing, and this CD features some of her greatest hits sung live.

6. Alanis Morissette - MTV Unplugged

The unplugged arrangements of her songs are fantastic, and she does a killer cover of the Police song "King of Pain."

5. Chantal Kreviazuk - Colour Moving and Still

This hasn't been released yet in the US. It's available only in Canada. She is a wonderfully talented songwriter and singer, and this is a CD you must buy when it's released.

4. Sheryl Crow and Friends - Live From Central Park

A great concert featuring Sheryl singing solo, plus collaborations with Sarah McLachlan, Chrissie Hynde, Keith Richards, Stevie Nicks, the Dixie Chicks and more.

3. Amanda Marshall - Tuesday's Child

Another overlooked CD. She's got a great big powerful voice and deserves to be a big star.

2. Def Leppard - Euphoria

Had the chance to see them live in concert this year, and they rock! This CD is their best since Hysteria.

1. Aimee Mann - Magnolia Soundtrack

There are a couple of songs from Supertramp, but this is an Aimee Mann CD. She is one of the finest songwriters alive, and her voice is haunting and beautiful. It's good to hear her again.

Here are some picks from my fellow Suite 101.com editors:
