There aren't many CDs released in the month of December, so instead of my monthly CD reviews, I'll recap the top CDs and singles of 1999. I've enlisted the help of some of my fellow Suite 101.com editors as well, and their picks follow mine.

1999 was the year of teen pop and Latin pop. Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, N-Sync, Christina Aguilera and Ricky Martin ruled the charts. Will 2000 continue that trend, or will something entirely new and different conquer the pop charts? We'll just have to wait and see.

Here are my favorite singles of 1999:

20. Edwin McCain - I Could Not Ask For More
King of the sappy ballads

19. Fatboy Slim - Praise You
Very cool video.

18. Fastball - Out Of My Head

17. Jessica Simpson - I Wanna Love You Forever
This teen star has a powerful voice.

16. Sixpence None The Richer - There She Goes
Strangest band name of 1999.

15. TLC - No Scrubs
They can't get along, but they can sure write hit songs!

14. 98 Degrees - The Hardest Thing
I'm not a teenaged girl and I still dig this song.

13. Tonic - You Wanted More
Best song on excellent American Pie soundtrack.

12. Lenny Kravitz - Fly Away
It should be illegal to put songs in TV commercials right after they're released.

11. LFO - Summer Girls
The dumbest lyrics, but it's so damn catchy!

10. Barenaked Ladies - It's All Been Done
David Duchovny singing backup on this song on the Tonight Show was awesome.

9. Cher - Believe
Just when you think her career is dead she rises from the ashes with a hit song.

8. Blessid Union - Hey Leonardo
I knew these guys before they knew Leonardo.

7. Sugar Ray - Every Morning
Proved they are not one hit wonders.

6. Collective Soul - Run
Great song from one of my favorite bands.

5. Sheryl Crow - Anything But Down
She can't write a bad song as far as I'm concerned.

4. Savage Garden - I Knew I Loved You
The perfect pop song.

3. Tal Bachman - She's So High
Sings better than his old man (Randy Bachman from Bachman Turner Overdrive) and is about 100 pounds lighter.

2. Def Leppard - Promises
These guys still know how to rock after all these years.

1. Goo Goo Dolls - Slide
The best single of 1999 hands down.

Let's turn now to CDs. I've only been pop music editor since May, but I've kept track of 1999's releases all year long. Here are my 12 favorites:

12. Gas Giants - From Beyond The Back Burner
