Christmas time is here again, and it's time to shop! The internet is a great place to buy music. You'll get better selection and lower prices on the net than in music stores, and a lot of online retailers are offering free shipping. I invited several online music stores the opportunity to tell about themselves and why you should buy your music from them. The descriptions of each store are written by the stores themselves. I'm not endorsing any particular store, just giving you the opportunity to hear from them and hear their pitches. I'd like to hear about your online CD buying experiences with these stores, and any others not listed. Just start a discussion below. Because of length, I've broken the article up into two sections. We think we do that by offering our customers the best selection at great prices, by offering them the information they need to discover CDs they'll love, and by offering the best customer service. I'd like to share with you how we're doing that: WE OFFER THE BEST SELECTION: After you've shopped online for CDs, it's tough to go back to a physical store, because they're so frequently out of product. We have more than 25 times the number of CDs than the typical physical store. Most internet retailers don't have their own distribution centers and systems, so they rely on 1 or 2 distributors. Because Amazon.com owns and operates our own distribution system, we can buy from hundreds or thousands of suppliers --and therefore are able to offer more CDs, tapes and vinyl than many of our competitors. Amazon.com's distribution capability enables us to add significantly to the range offered by CDnow, B&N and other online retailers by:. * Forming relationships directly with artists and adding their titles to our catalog. We currently carry thousands of CDs by independent artists and labels that are not carried by our competitors. * Forming relationships with established artists with sizeable fanbases, such as Cheap Trick, Cowboy Junkies and David Byrne -- whose latest albums we have carried
