Each month I review my favorite new CD's of the past 30 days. It doesn't matter if it's on a major label, independent label, or no label at all. I just have to have it so I can listen to it! If you are a record label or musician and would like your new release considered for review, send it to me: Chad Bowar, Suite 101.com Pop Music Editor, PO Box 1723, Rapid City, SD 57709. Here are this month's best new CDs, in no particular order:

Moxie--The Floor
This isn't a brand new release, but I just received it this month. The name of the group may not be familiar yet, but you may have heard Moxie's songs on the TV shows Dawson's Creek and Party of Five. Suburbia is on the Dawson's Creek soundtrack, in addition to being on The Floor.

The Floor is extremely catchy and full of hooks. I'm a sucker for good harmonies, and Moxie's sweet three-part harmonies mask some pretty biting lyrics. Their sound is a mix of the Bangles, Liz Phair, Alanis Morissette, and a few others. It's a really unique sound, and a very good sound.

I'm very proud of myself for waiting until the third paragraph of the review to mention that Moxie is an all-female band. Three of the members are from New York and one from Wales. In their press kit, almost every single article opens with the fact they are female. I'm not sure why that is such a big deal nowadays. I'm much more impressed with the fact they started their own record label (28 Days Records) instead of shopping their demo to major labels. They also secured a national distribution deal so The Floor is available just about everywhere.

Moxie creates very good pop music, and that's the bottom line. I know you'll be hearing a lot more from this band in the future. As a matter of fact, their second release "Moo" will be released later this summer. For more information about Moxie, visit their website: http://www.moxierock.com

Robyn Hitchcock - Jewels For Sophia

I've never been much of a Robyn Hitchcock fan, but I really like his latest release, Jewels For Sophia. The melodies are great, and the lyrics are bizarre. For example, here's a bit of the title track:
Oh Lord I just amalgamated saturated clams
Dig Rex in tunnels with gerbils in your annex
I got Lord Fluff ginger silicone pusscat
Never make a bad one out of all the stuff I weave
