CD Recorder Reviewed
CD Recorders are preferable to Mini Disc, in my opinion. Everybody already has CDs and CD players, so you don't have to invest in a completely new platform. The same logic is true for DAT. Computer CD recorders are pretty good, but it takes a long time to create a CD, depending on your computer's speed and capabilities. And how many people have their stereo hooked up through their computer now? A CD Recorder just plugs into your existing stereo system, although if you have an older receiver you may have to sacrifice that cassette deck, because if you're recording analog it required 2 sets of RCA jacks like a cassette deck, instead of the 1 set required by regular CD players. I was really impressed with the recordings I made. The sound quality was perfect, and it was easy to operate. The only negative about the Philips CD Recorder is the price. You'll spend at least $500 to buy one, and the blank CDs are another expense. The CD-R discs are about $4 each, and the CD-RW discs around $10 each. But like everything electronic, the price of CD recorders will come down. There will be a lot more competition in the future and that will certainly lower the prices. Hopefully by Christmas time they'll be a lot cheaper so my wife can buy me one! A Philips CD Recorder is a great addition to your stereo system.
