Who's Your Favorite Pop Music Artist and Why Contest WinnerThe pop music page is now about one month old, and we've just completed our first contest. The topic of the contest was "Who is your favorite pop music artist and why?" We had tons of entries and it was very difficult selecting a winner. After hours of agonizing deliberation, the winning entry was selected. The winner is Gina Sanders of Lake Mary, FL. She wins the Billboard Book of Number One Hits. Here is Gina's winning entry: "My all time favorite Pop Artist is undoubtedly Sting! I first fell in love with the Police with their grim looking video for Roxanne. You could argue that the Police were more of the Punk genre, but I think they transcended that by their sheer popularity. They were unique at the time and had a completely new sound." "Sting long outlasted the band, but I certainly didn't mind. He WAS the sound that I loved. After seeing him in Quadrophenia, it was all over for me! I was in love with my first star - His sound - his face - his look at the world." "He has remained pretty much timeless in my opinion, yet doesn't embarrass himself with trying to re-invent himself for each new fad. He's reminds of that really great MG you bought used and drove for years. It's always looks good and remains cool after all of these years!" A lot of you asked who my favorite pop music artist is. It is very difficult to narrow it down to just one, so I'll give you a list of a few of my favorite artists: Sheryl Crow, old U2, Def Leppard, REM, Chantal Kreviazuk, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Gin Blossoms, Tina Arena, Collective Soul, Icehouse, Journey, Amanda Marshall, Aimee Mann and more. Thanks Gina, and thanks to everybody else who entered the contest. Stay tuned for more chances to win cool prizes from the pop music page!
