Former Pseudo Echo lead singer Brian Canham has formed a new band, Brill, who recently released their self-titled debut CD. Canham and the other founding member of Brill, former Chocolate Starfish drummer Darren Danielson have sold over one and a half million albums and singles in their respective former bands. Brill started as a side venture for the two old friends, but soon turned into a full time commitment. The Melbourne, Australia group's debut album features several catchy singles, and the first radio release is "Mary Ann". That's right, a song about the Gilligan's Island babe! There is also a remake of the Bob Welch classic "Ebony Eyes". Here is my interview with Brill lead singer and guitarist Brian Canham:

Pop Music Editor Chad Bowar:You were in Pseudo Echo from 82-89. What have you been up to between then and when Brill was formed?

Brian Canham: I pretty much moved away from live performing, and into studio work , mainly producing and writing with other bands. One very successfull ( Platinum selling ) Australian band I produced, called "Chocolate Starfish", is kind of how Darren Danielson ( Brill drummer ) & I hooked up.

CB: Talk a little bit about the other members of Brill and how you guys got together.

BC: Well, prior to hooking up with Darren in 'Starfish, we'd actually gone to the same high school together, and grew up in the same neighborhood. Both Zoran Romich & Andy McIvor were formerly in Chocolate Starfish also, it's a pretty close net team here. Dave Stewart ( sounds more famous than he actually is ), is a guy who was just playing around the local cover scene, and jumped at the prospect of venturing into the professional scene.

CB: How would you describe the band's sound to someone who hasn't heard them before?

BC: Organic, 60's ( with a hint of 80's, ... can't deny that ) influenced pop.

CB: What has been the response to Brill in your home country of Australia?

BC: Very positive, and well respected in the industry.

CB: How about in the US?

BC: So far fantastic ! We're constantly receiving emails of praise from our US fans.

CB: How did get started in music?

BC: Started a band in high school, and basically never lost sight of my goals. I must say, there was a great element of luck & timing too.

CB: Who are some of your musical influences?
