Summertime is traditionally the busiest season for live music, and the summer of '99 is no different. Along with individual artists, several festivals and events are taking place. These festivals and events feature several different acts all in one day. Here's a rundown of some of them:

Lilith Fair 1999 could be the last Lilith Fair. This is the third year of the all female Fair started by Sarah McLachlan. During a press conference April 27th, McLachlan said "This will be the last year in North America for a long time. It could be three years, it could be 10 years, or it could be never." Lilith Fair 1999 will play 40 shows in 33 cities. It kicks off in Vancouver on July 8th, and also ends in Canada with a final show in Edmonton on August 31st. The tour has been criticized in the past for its lack of diversity, but this year's show adds more R & B and country music. Some of the artists performing on various dates are Shawn Colvin, Sheryl Crow, Dixie Chicks, Indigo Girls, Queen Latifah, Lisa Loeb, Luscious Jackson, Martina McBride, Monica, Liz Phair, The Pretenders and Suzanne Vega. As always, McLachlan will perform at all the shows.

Ozzfest

If there's not enough testosterone for your liking at Lilith Fair, Ozzfest may be more to your liking. The big draw of this year's 4th annual Ozzfest is the final bow of Black Sabbath. The group staged a reunion tour over the winter, which was the original band's first full tour in twenty years.

Ozzfest '99 launches May 27th in West Palm Beach, Florida. In addition to Black Sabbath, artists include Rob Zombie, Deftones, Slayer, Primus, Godsmack, Fear Factory, and more. In addition to two stages of music, there's also the legendary Never Never Land, a circus like concourse of attractions, exhibitors and exhibitionists.

Ozzfest is not for the faint of heart. For more information, check out this site: http://www.ozzfest.com

Woodstock 99

Lilith Fair and Ozzfest are festivals playing in many cities all summer long. Woodstock 99 is a one time event. Woodstock, the ultimate celebration of peace, love and rock and roll is turning 30. The 30th anniversary concert will be held July 23rd-25th at Griffiss Park in Rome, NY.

Michael Lang, one of the producers of the original Woodstock as well as the '94 event says, "Woodstock isn't just a concert- it's a rite of passage. Woodstock has become the Olympics of live music- so that every five years we can step out of ourselves and celebrate diversity, great music and each other."
