Best of 2003
He claims this is his last album. If so, he's going out on a high note, but I hope he makes a comeback because there aren't many hip-hop artists more talented than Jay-Z. 6. Metallica - St. Anger A lot of critics didn't like this one and you'll see it on many "worst of" lists. I disagree. I think this album pays homage to their early days while still sounding current. 5. Sting - Sacred Love His career has lasted for over 25 years now and he's aging very gracefully. How many other 50-somethings can do a song with Mary J. Blige and still sound hip? Sting has managed to stay relevant and keep releasing great albums. 4. Outkast - Speakerboxx/The Love Below One of the most innovative albums of the year. Andre 3000 and Big Boi combine two solo records into a genre-busting, eclectic masterpiece. 3. 50 Cent - Get Rich Or Die Tryin' 6 million copies sold, 5 Grammy nominations, 9 gunshot wounds. He's got the hooks and the street cred. 2. Fountains Of Wayne - Welcome Interstate Managers I'm not sure how a group that released their first album in 1996 can be nominated for the Best New Artist Grammy, but these guys deserve it. This album is funny, quirky, and damn entertaining. 1. Evanesence - Fallen Amy Lee's haunting voice and looks took her to the top of every goth kid's list this year. But even us regular people appreciate the great songwriting and emotion of a fantastic debut album. Plus, who would have thought a successful band could come from Arkansas?
