24 year old Becky Baeling has already climbed the dance charts with her debut album and has her sights set on the pop charts. Born in Rochester, Michigan (Madonna's hometown), and raised in Shelby Township, Michigan to a fighter pilot, General father and a homemaker mother, Becky has always danced to the beat of her own drum. She started dance lessons at age three, wrote her own musical at age five and by age nine, She was making regular musical theatre appearances, including an eight-month run as the lead in "Annie." She also sang with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

Baeling went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Michigan before attending London's renowned Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. After returning stateside, Becky made the move to New York City and sang in jazz clubs, on jingles and in a number of off-off Broadway and regional theatre productions.

Baeling's debut album is called Becstasy. The first single, "If You Love Me", went to number 3 on the Billboard Dance Chart, and "Getaway" to number 2. Her latest single is a cover of the Belinda Carlisle number one hit, "Heaven Is A Place On Earth". I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Becky Baeling. She's very energetic, focused, charming, and destined for success.

Chad Bowar: Describe the sound of your debut album.

Becky Baeling: I would describe it as dance/disco/futurama. It has the elements of old school disco, but it's definitely the new edge club flair. It's infused with energy and emotion.

How did you decide on Becstacy as the album title?

That name was given to me by my producer, Tony Moran. I have this problem with not being able to control my emotions, good and bad. That's why I believe God had me equipped with vocal ability so that I could get it out through song. When I'm speaking and I'm dealing with people I'm touching them a lot and speaking enthusiastically at loud volumes. He was saying that I epitomize the word "ecstasy", so he said he would call me "Becstasy" from now on. I said "that's going to be the name of my album!"

Why did you decide on "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" for a cover song on the album?

It was a tough debate. Since the impetus for the album came from my parents LPs, 70s stuff like Donna Summer and the Bee Gees, I said the next genre that influenced me the most just by the generation I grew up in was the 80s. The artists I gravitated to were Belinda from the Go-Gos and Olivia Newton-John. I battled for a while between "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" and "Magic". As the mainstream music became a little more sardonic and angsty teenage girl, I decided to do "Heaven" because there wasn't anything upbeat and fun out there.
