Editors note: a Big THANK YOU to everyone who e-mailed me their questions and comments regarding the May 21,1999 article "Summer Movies 2000 - A Look Ahead At Next Year's Hopeful Hits" - nearly one-hundred messages, and still counting! It's a real pleasure to correspond with each and every one of you.

The most frequently asked question I've been asked has basically centered around "What's up for next Summer?" Well, as I promised in all those replies of "Keep watching, I'm on the case!" here we go - lights, camera, action....

As Hollywood unveils their fall Oscar contenders, behind the scenes and in front of the camera things are already heating up for Summer movie season 2001 - grab your popcorn and Junior Mints and settle back for a look at these coming attractions:

THE MUMMY RETURNS - While everyone's attention last Summer was focused on The Phantom Menace, The Mummy, modestly budgeted at $76 million snuck into theaters and became a surprise hit with a final take of $155 million. Set in 1935, ten years following the events of the first film, Rick O' Connell (Brendon Fraser) and Evelyn (Rachel Weisz) are now married with a 9-year-old son. Matters take a fateful turn when the remains of Imhotep and Anck-Su-Numam are resurrected in a British Museum and the world is once again threatened with unspeakable evil. Wrestler Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson also stars as the villainous Scorpion King. Click here to go to the official site. (May 11,2001)

ROLLERBALL - Director John Mc Tiernan helms this remake of the 1975 action pic starring James Caan. Set in 2005, this gladiator-like sport combines roller derby with motorcycles where players circle a banked track and attempt to score by placing a fast moving ball in to a scoring zone while attempting to stay alive - because killing an opponent is an option. SHREK - Mike Myers provides the voice of the title character, a kindly ogre on a mission to slay a fire-breathing dragon and rescue a beautiful princess with a wise-cracking donkey sidekick (voice of Eddie Murphy) along for the fun. This computer animated feature is DreamWorks Pictures follow-up to the critically acclaimed Antz. (May 18, 2001)

PEARL HARBOR - Set before and after the attack on the morning of December 7th, 1941, Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett portray two aviator friends who fall in love with the same woman. At $145 million, this becomes the most expensively budgeted movie in history. The rest of the all-star cast includes Alec Baldwin (Lt. Colonel Jimmy Doolittle) Cuba Gooding Jr. (Dorie Miller) Jon Voight (Franklin Delano Roosevelt) and Dan Aykroyd (Capt. Thurman). Click here to go to the official site. (May 23, 2001)
