The 2nd Annual Pop Ten ListWhat a difference a year makes...not one of last year's illustrious list makers returns for a repeat on this second edition of the annual pop ten list. Not teletubbies, not furby, not Seinfeld. A testament to the ever changing world of popular culture. Chosen for their impact on society's "hot" meter as well as for their respective longevity and ability to hold the public's fancy, this years list-makers cover a wide spectrum from literature to movies to break-out technology. And now, without further ado, the 2nd annual pop ten list.... 10.WOODSTOCK The '69 version of Woodstock billed itself as 'Three days of peace and love',attended by some 400,000, there were 80 drug arrests. At Woodstock '94, 24 arrests were made. Those stats pale in comparison to the third go-round for the venerable concert series, which resulted in two deaths, 44 arrests, and 3,500 injuries - as well as four reported rapes and numerous assaults. Should there be a fourth Woodstock, it might be fitting that the only number performed be taps. 9.I WANT MY MP3 We have seen the future of music - and it is MP3. MP3 is tech lingo for MPEG 1 layer 3, the ability to compress music files down to between one-fourth and one-twentieth their normal size. Anyone with net access can download as many files - songs - as they want and organize them into a playlist for repeated enjoyment.Check out MP3.com for details. 8.THE LITTLE DISC THAT COULD What MP3 is to music, the DVD has come of age as the must-have wonder for movie fans. The 4 inch dynamos bring incredible picture quality and sound and often come loaded with a variety of extras as storyboards, director commentary, and trailers. If you've held off buying a DVD player to see if the novelty would wear off, forget it. If you already own one one, visit Movie price Guide and click on the "coupon" tab and treat yourself to an impressive choice of money saving deals on your favorite movies. 7."LIVIN' LA VIDA LOCA" Latin-flavored pop hit it's zenith with Ricky Martin, who's self-titled album sold 3.8 million units, his June 11 performance on the Today Show attracted 6,000 and had people lining up the afternoon before the show. 6.JUST WILD ABOUT HARRY Move over John Grisham, J.K. Rowling's boy wizard is the new king of the literary hill. Harry Potter is an 11-year-old orphan who finds himself enrolled in the Hogswart School of Withcraft and Wizardry where he learns the vocation for which he was destined.
