They're makin' their lists
for you to check twice to rush right out and buy 'em no matter the price... ...Santa Claus is comin' to town - and he's getting a little help from his friends. No need to pilfer the letter your kid has written to jolly old Saint Nick to get the low-down on what the little tyke expects to find under the tree come Christmas morning. Would-be toy experts, from retailers to publishers, are unveiling their various "most wanted lists" for the coming season to give harried shoppers a jump start on what's hot and trendy. Based on the opinions of more than a dozen toy sellers, including Toys R Us, specialty chain Noodle Kidoodle, and internet giant eToys, Pokemon heads this years list of must-haves. Videos, playing cards and plush characters associated with the Japanese cartoon won by a landslide over such runners up as action figures and high-tech gizmos. Some may question the validity of the picks - they are, after all, compiled by the same people who sell the toys. "We're tuned-in to what kid's want," says the store manager of a local Toys R Us. "We field inquiries from moms and dads and children constantly. That in turn helps us keep what's in demand on store shelves and in inventory." Toy Wishes:The Ultimate Toy Buying Guide, available in most major bookstores, bases their picks on the mere than 75 years of combined expertise of their editorial board members in the fields of children's entertainment, product trends, and toy and game manufacturing. The "Hot Dozen", the magazines choice of which toys are destined to become bestsellers, was whittled down from more than 150,000 products. In addition, 25 different categories ranging from video games to activity toys features it's own 'hot pick' and reviews of each toys merit and appeal. Whether shoppers choose to follow the recomendations of either list, either as a whole or as part of their own intuition of what will put a smile on the face of junior or little miss, Pop Culture has combined the best of the two lists - noting with an asterisk those toys which garnered mention on both. -Pokemon* Basically anything having to do with the little pocket monsters will satisify the rabid demand kids have for this phenomenal wonder. most asked for: Fossil cards, the latest expansion set with all new characters and Pokemon Pikachu Plush, the most popular character in the whole Pokemon menagerie. -Amazing Ally A "virtual friend" with a virtually limitless vocabulary and realistic animatronic movements, kids can interact with the doll by typing in personal info with a keypad...and Ally will not only remember, but recall them during play.
