Listen My Friends

© Frank Monaldo

My apologies to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

Listen my friends and you'll be smitten
To hear of the tales of William Clinton.
In the Oval Office, in the grand House of White;
All the lawyerly lips shut tight
To keep stories of women out of sight.

The economy is without peer;
Allowing the "Pres" to stare and leer
At every pretty and curvaceous intern;
Who comes to Washington to learn;
With big broad smiles and without any fear.

Others to worship Bill on bent knee;
Does not seem to bother Hillary.
While such regal worship seems like idolatry;
The law is read by some to be:
That such worship is not adultery.

On a long tape one intern did Tripp;
Saying too much and being too flip.
In middle January nineteen ninety-eight;
For Monica it was too late.
She told the story with nary a slip.

For now the story has come quite far.
Some think its about Clinton and Starr.
Some people believe its about power and might;
And seeing who will win the fight.
Does it not matter who is really right?

For now please ignore Clinton and Starr.
The question is about who we are.
Are we a people who don't especially mind
Having a leader of this kind?
Is obstructing justice going too far?

- Things are moving so fast I did not have time to add a verse about Kathleen Willey. As a small challenge, are any readers prepared to add such a verse? --F. Monaldo

Rick, I think a more appropriate Latin tag for the Clinton/Flowers affair would be "e unum pluribus." (Sorry for the bad Latin, but I think you get the drift.)
