Some Reasons to Vote For George Bush

A list, but by no means complete list, of reasons to vote for George Bush for President this November.

  1. George Bush will begin to return to Americans control of their own retirement assets and income. Under the current regime, young adults will likely find that the dollars invested in Social Security will not be returned in full measure. Young working people presently subsidize the wealthiest demographic of the population. The key to Social Security reform is to gradually shift to more a privatized system while making allowances for those who have not provided for their retirement appropriately. Senior citizens will be less vulnerable to the whims of government allocations when they control their own retirement assets.
  2. If George Bush is elected, there will be no attorney general who encourages public cynicism by unequal application of campaign finance laws.
  3. If George Bush becomes president, poor children will have the same opportunity exercised by Gore's children, to escape the bondage of failing urban schools. The fact the Bush's children attend pubic school will reassure us of his genuine commitment both to public education and empowerment of parents to choose the schools that are best for their children
  4. Under George Bush's prescription drug plan the needy elderly will be subsidized, but Bill Gate's parents and other wealthy seniors will not be. Seniors will be able to choose among different types of prescription coverage and will not be compelled to squeeze into a large one-size-fits-all government-run plan.
  5. Both Gore and Bush propose to devote roughly the same amount of resources to Social Security and deficit reduction. The remainder of the budget surplus will be returned to taxpayers by Bush and will be spent on new government programs by Gore. The proportion that the budget surplus is reduced by tax cuts is reasonably predictable. The costs of new programs have almost always been radical underestimates. Unless you believe that the government is extraordinarily accurate in assessing the future costs of open-ended entitlement programs, Bush is acting responsibly and Gore is pushing a "risky scheme."
  6. If George Bush is elected, we will not have to listen to four (or even eight) divisive years of class warfare pitting citizen against citizen.
  7. If George Bush is elected president, Al Gore, the network genius that he is, will have more time and intellectual energy to devote to valuable and important research into the next generation Internet. We would be foolish as a nation to squander this important talent.
