Amendment 28 - Revision to the 2nd Amendment.

A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. - 2nd Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.

The Founding Fathers when they wrote these now infamous words into the second amendment of the Constitution, could never have envisioned this recent litany of violence at the hands of our children and citizenry gone amuck:

May 1, 1992 Olivehust, CA (4 dead, 10 wounded)

April 19, 1993 Waco, TX (80 dead)

April 19, 1995 Oklahoma City, OK (168 dead)

October 30, 1995 Richmond, VA (4 wounded)

February 2, 1996 Moss Lake, WA (1 dead, 3 wounded)

February 22, 1996 St. Louis, MO (1 dead, 1 wounded)

July 26, 1996 Los Angels, CA (2 wounded)

October 1, 1997 Pearl MS (2 dead, 7 wounded)

Dec. 1, 1997 West Paducakika, KY (3 dead, 5 wounded)

February 19, 1997 Bethel, AS (2 dead)

March 24, 1998 Jonesboro, AK (5 dead, 10 wounded)

April 1, 1998 Edinboro PA (1 dead)

May 19, 1998 Fayetteville, TN (1 dead)

May 21, 1998 Springfield, OR (2 dead, 22 wounded)

April 20, 1999 Littleton, CO (15 dead, 23 wounded)

Nov. 1, 1999 Honolulu, HI (9 dead)

Nov. 3, 1999 Seattle, WA (2 dead, 2 wounded)

March 1, 2000 Pittsburgh, PA (2 dead, 3 wounded)

March 8, 2000 Memphis, TN (4 dead, 2 wounded)

April 24, 2000 Washington D.C. (1 dead, 6 wounded)

April 28, 2000 Pittsburgh, PA (5 dead, 1 wounded)

May 26, 2000 Pelham, AL (3 dead)

All of these incidents were well publicized, the victims mourned over, and the events themselves bemoaned as tragic in the extreme. The politicians at both the state and federal levels played lip service to the events via meaningless sound bites compliments of the national press and then promptly forgot the events when the furor died down. Same ole actions and reactions; meanwhile nothing ever changes for the good and the killing continues apace!

The original intent of the 2nd Amendment (and please correct me if I am in error) was twofold; first it was to guard against the oppression of the people by the government, by forming and maintaining a well-regulated militia from each state, and provide arms for said militia'. Second since the new United States had no standing Army at the time the United States Constitution was adopted, the forces for these militia had to come from the citizen's at large, and they had to provide their own arms, thus the 2nd Amendment was adopted.
