With the near certainty that the World Bank soon will officially request more money from the U.S., and that the IMF will be back in line for more money within the next two years, many policymakers already are gearing up for the inevitable debate that will ensue. But unlike last time, proponents of the IMF will be armed with greater analysis and materials in which to make their case. While the IMF may have achieved a short-term victory in getting $18 billion more from the U.S., its long-term prognosis remains terminal.
