The Baltic Countries In World War II


The Soviets wound up winning the war, of course, and reincorporated the Baltic countries into the USSR. On top of the extensive war damage and economic devastation, the Balts had to deal with another invading army. Many Balts fled to the West, hoping to cross British or American lines. After years of war, no one was looking forward to the complete Sovietization That would follow.
