These are some children's books related to summer that I think are definitely worth your attention...(all are available for purchase or more information at www.amazon.com) "101 Tips on How to Survive the Summer with Your Kids" by Marty W. Stewart provides a number of ideas that involve spending quality time with your kids during the summer months. Not only is there a variety of fun outdoor activities described, but the book is loaded with suggestions how to make sure the whole family gets along during those hot, summer days. "Animals in Summer (Kids Want to Know Series)" by Jane R. McCauley and John Agnone from National Geographic "Kids Want to Know Series" shows kids how and why the summer season is an industrious period for animals. Includes tidbits such as summer is the time when a deer grows a new set of antlers, when cicadas shed their skin and start to sing and when young goslings head for the water. Also includes color photographs! "The Kids Summer Games Book" by Jane Drake offers instructions on everything from how to conduct an outdoor scavenger hunt, to how to set up an obstacle course or warm-weather Olympics to indoor games such as charades, slapjack and bingo. A fully illustrated book loaded with tons of fun summer ideas - this one's a keeper! "The $66 Summer" written by John Armistead and illustrated by James Pate is a charming work of fiction set in the summer of 1955. The main character George, a twelve year old boy living in a small town with his grandmother, encounters and learns to deal with everything from trying to save money for a motorcycle to such socially poignant issues as racism. "Canoe Days" written and illustrated by Gary and Ruth Paulsen is brilliantly colorful in both pictures and words. The book chronicles a summer canoe trip as well as various encounters with animals and other elements of nature. This is one would make a great gift!
