A Site for Sore Eyes!

Bookworm is fantastic website for kids who love to read. It's addresss is http://www.kidsreads.com and it features a variety of interesting and educational stories and activities for kids. The site is "run" by Booker T. Worm, a chubby green worm winding his way throughout the website, peering through his spectacles at all the reviews, books and information. His parents, Page and Turner Worm have asked him to stop eating the books, but sometime he just can't help himself.

One item the site is currently featuring is "The Little House Series". Laura Ingalls Wilder fans will love these "new" additions to the collection of Little House books. They'll find a collection of poems, stories and newspaper articles that Wilder wrote before she started writing the Little House books.

Other features kids will enjoy on this website include polls, reviews, and a contest in which a child can guess what book will win the latest Newbery or Caldecott Medal (January 17, 1999), and if they choose correctly, they win a prize. Bookworm is also running a Scavenger Hunt (Game 2) which offers kids a chance to win a free autographed book! This hunt also forces kids to explore the entire website is they look for the items on the list and answer the appropriate questions.

Interviews with authors are another important element of the Bookworm website. Currently features is a special interview with author Cherie Bennett, author of ZINK. ZINK is a wonderful book about courage and life, as seen through the eyes a delightful 10-year-old girl named Becky, who has leukemia. There is also an interview currently available which centers around Jules Bass, who created such television classics as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, and The Little Drummer Boy. Jules also loves to cook and likes to teach cooking classes at his home in the south of France. He's written two books for kids ages 6 and up --- HERB, THE VEGETARIAN DRAGON and COOKING WITH HERB.

So be sure and check out this website...but hurry, before Booker T. Worm gobbles everything up!
