Writing for Kids Magazines© Arden Davidson
If you are a writer interested in reaching young readers, you will be happy to know that most juvenile and young adult magazines are very receptive to a wide variety of fiction, articles and poetry of interest to children and young adults. Many of these magazines also accept games, puzzles and humor that educate or entertain.
Before you submit your material, however, be sure to familiarize yourself with a publication; know its editorial slant, as well as its intended audience. That's one advantage magazine publishing does have over book publishing - the market research has already been done for you. Here are a few publications to which you might want to try submitting your work. Visit their websites to find out about their submission guidelines. American Girl Magazine (The Magazine Celebrating Girls of Today) http://www.americangirl.com/ag/ag.cgi Child Life Magazine (has been entertaining young people for more than 80 years.) http://www.bookmag.com/magazines/title/c... Ladybug Magazine (affiliated with Cricket and Spider magazine) http://www.cricketmag.com/ladybug/index.... You can also obtain an excellent list of editorial contacts at http://www.satevepost.org/kidsonline/par... NOTE: City and regional magazines offer one of the most extensive and receptive markets for writers today. Research your LOCAL market first, as many publications prefer to use the work of local writers. Go To Page: 1
