Eclectica

As you most likely realize, I spend a great deal of time on the internet looking for poetry and literary magazines that I would enjoy doing a review of. There are literally thousands of sites out there containing poetry, fiction, essays, reviews and the like. There are so many that I don't for a moment imagine I will ever get to the end of them. Some I glance through, some I don't even bother going past the first page and then there are the ones I bookmark and visit over and over again.

Eclectica is one of those great literary magazines that you will visit many times. I couldn't even get to the halfway mark on one visit. It is one of those zines that require a pot of coffee, a half dozen of your favourite treats and a lot of time. Not only does it contain an excellent selection of poetry but Eclectica also has fiction, essays, a music column, some great humour and satire and book reviews as well.

Eclectica is a quarterly zine the was founded in 1996. It is a journal that is "devoted to showcasing the best writing on the web regardless of genre "Literary" and "genre" work appear side-by-side in each issue, along with pieces which blur the distinctions between such categories. We have had Pushcart Prize, National Poetry Series, and Pulitzer Prize winners, as well as Nebula Award nominees."

Eclectica also publishes a print anthology. All of their writers are eligible for inclusion in the anthology. While Eclectica is a not-for-profit publication, they do offer contributor's to the anthology a stipend and contributor's copies. They are also a nominating publication for the E-Scene Awards. About the Editors:

Tom Dooley and Julie King edit Eclectica, a literary variety magazine that has been on the web since 1996. From the beginning, we were conscious that as a nonpaying publication, the most useful thing we could offer our contributors was the highest editorial standards we could muster. When authors appear in Eclectica, they know their writing has been selected from hundreds of submissions. Their work will be presented in a format that puts content over electronic gimmickry, and they will join an archived list of former contributors that reads like an international who's who of writers on the net. We're very proud of the eclectic range of style, genre, and subject matter that can be found in each new issue--eclectivism that reflects the internet
