There are many stories of people in Africa trying to do what they can to help their own people. Many are doing amazing, sacrificial things.
These are just some of the people that the African Aids Foundation in Australia supports who we visited in South Africa when we were there in November 2003. In Durban an Aids outpatient and skills training centre called Sinikithemba has been established. It cares for those suffering from Aids and trains people to become self sufficient through arts, crafts and bead making so that they can avoid prostitution and crime. They have established an international choir that travels the World entertaining, informing and raising funds. In Cato Ridge, just about 30 minutes from Durban and in a rural area God's Golden Acre has been established. This facility contains an orphanage, a hospice, a school, a vocational training programme and a food distribution network for neighbouring villages. They have established an international children's choir that travels the World. Tabitha Ministries, named after a widow who practiced deeds of kindness and charity in the early Christian Church, has been established in Pietermaritzburg. This facility includes a hospital, orphanage, skill training programme and a home based care group which regularly visits over 500 people. A farm project is currently being considered and funds for this project are being raised. It has also trained over 2500 people in Aids awareness and reached 68000 school children through drama and puppeteering educating them about pregnancy, rape, molestation and aids. In Johannesburg, Ulwazi skills based training project has been established and trains people in pre-nursing, dressmaking, bakery and employment skills. Land has been acquired for a farm project and orphan support groups have also been established. Two African women have taken in 30 orphans and care for them as an extended family with financial support coming from donations and a crèche they established which caters for 67 children. In the rural community of Winterton all of the Churches have combined to establish a food acquisition and distribution network called Mathew 25:25 and to support a local "Door of Hope" orphanage. There is a tremendous spirit arising in Africa. A spirit that is uniting people in their war against Aids. Colour barriers have mostly been broken down and old prejudices have been overcome. The African Aids Foundation in Australia, and other like minded organisations from around the World, actively support these and other Aids projects financially, through volunteers, with various goods and also through awareness programmes.
