Harvest Roundup for Poets

© Kay Day

We've received lots of news with opportunities for poets. And there's a special message from your editor for Thanksgiving!

Thank you

When I first conceived the idea for this site at suite101.com about two years ago, I had ideas on what it would be like. I envisioned a finely sculpted garden, with large oaks and hanging moss (I'm a southern writer). There would be benches and tables for everyone to sit at. We would read poetry and talk poetry and learn about poetry together.

The poetry community at suite101.com has exceeded my wildest expectations. Between 4,000-5,000 visits occur in this literary enclave each week, often more. Outside, the world is caught up in wars, politics, and religion, but within, there is a very exciting current charged with poetry each and every day.

Each of you has helped to bring this community together in the interest of poetry. Many of you have bought my book, and written to tell me you enjoyed it. For all of that, I thank you, and I am honored to share something that I love with all of you. --Blessings, Kay Day

Happy Thanksgiving, and Happy Harvest!

greatUNpublished.com sponsors essay contest; lists best-sellers

On-demand printer greatUnpublished.com (GU) is sponsoring a no-fee essay contest with a super incentive. The subject is "active states of writing and reading." Winner gets his or her monograph printed and bound, and sold on site. Check out the GU front page for details. Essays are due during November, 2000, and should be emailed to editorsdesk@greatunpublished.com.

GU compiles a best seller list of their top ten titles each month. David Wright's book, Lines from the Provinces, is the top October title. The top ten includes several books of poetry, among them, Perfect Words by Kay Day, and Wildfern's Inspirational Poetry by Pearlie Walker. Dorion Sagan, son of the famed astronomer, has a novel, The Devil's Comic, in sixth place. Kristie Leigh Maguire's Desert Triangle, is a popular romance that has received lots of praise. There are over 100 good books at this site..

Looking for a gift for a writer? Check out GU. It's eclectic. And, yes, I'm biased because GU is my publisher!

Samsara sponsors poetry contest

Poets are invited to enter Samsara's poetry contest. This is an exceptional zine, and it's always a good idea to look through some back issues to see what sort of poetry the editors enjoy.
