Shann Palmer's poetry was broadcast on National Public Radio last week on the program Theme & Variations. Shann's a well-known editor and poet who guested a column for us about the Austin Poetry Festival.

Mary Hope has a poem in the October issue of ByLine. Hope's "Edit," is a lyric that speaks to the heart of every poet. Mary guested a column for us about workshops, and she's featured in our member showcase here at Poetry@suite101.com.

Pat Lyle is a poet who sent a very articulate letter about our column on the demise of the radio show Rhythm, originally slotted to air on National Public Radio. We received a number of letters on this column. Here's an abbreviated version of the email Pat agreed to share.

I've written poetry for many years
and whenever someone asks me what I
do I boldly tell them, "I write!"
Unlike the reactions you get from your
reply to that question, I seem to get a
different one when I tell them that instead
of best seller romance novels, I write poetry.
Most of the time, they look at me as if I had
just announced I was decoding government secrets
for the enemy, followed by a weak, deflated, "Oh."

I feel very blessed that I have been given this
talent to put words together in such a way
that people can actually feel my thoughts
as they read the words...for our chosen venue to be
shunned by the media and shoved to the back pages
of a magazine along with ads for affordable
aluminum outbuildings is depressing. Kudos
to you for standing up for all the rest of us
who are only trying to have our voices heard!
