Poets at Alsop Review A couple weeks ago, Karen Masullo wrote to tell us about Seamus Heaney winning the Whitbread Book of the Year Award for his translation of Beowulf. Karen wrote because she knows we are crazy about this ancient christian epic that we believe should be required reading for anybody interested in poetry. There's also a feature in the January/February 2000 American Poetry Review about Heaney's translation. Karen's own poetry is featured in a special section at Alsop Review, and it's worth a visit simply to read poems like "Holding Your Glasses in my Hand," and "Five Secrets." Masullo is a 1999 Pushcart nominee, a winner in the 1999 suite101.com poetry contest, and one heck of a poet. She moderates a discussion group at Alsop's "Gazebo," and Karen's Neighborhood Pub is a really interesting place to share news and learn about poetry. Poet and writer Michael Graber has asked us to announce the debut of a new section at the Review. "Taproot" will publish well-written and challenging nonfiction by and for poets. To submit interviews, essays, eloquent rambles, cultural pieces, and anything else that gets to the fertile heart of poetic craft, email Michael Graber. Your work is in excellent hands with Mr. Graber, a widely published, respected poet and writer. Mary Hope Moderator at Poet's Corner Mary Hope is a frequent contributor to the discussion boards here at the suite, and she's a fine poet who is helping other poets by moderating Poet's Corner at ivillage.com. The board is for both poets and writers, and you can post your own work there. Mary recently reprinted two of our columns here for her readers, and we'd like to thank her for helping share Poetry@suite101.com. The critiques at her board are kind-hearted, but honest, so if you're looking for feedback, this is a great place to go. Pif a Site to Bookmark When it comes to literature, in either print media or online, Pif is tops. The editors have written to tell us about the current issue, with home video Flash art, an interview with author Helen Ellis about growing up in the south, and many more articles, poems, and stories. This zine is on the cutting edge of the Literary Renaissance on the Net, and the keyword here is quality in both graphic and textual terms. Pif accepts submissions, and they pay, so take a look at the guidelines
