Low Level Laser Therapy and the Neuropathies

© Les Abrams

Author's Note: For the first time in many years - there seems to be something new in the arsenal of treatments for the neuropathies. This new development - Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) seems to be very promising. The results are nearly immediate. The pain is reduced relatively quickly - without the necessity for opiates or other analgesic drugs. Not all patients respond in the same way. But for the majority, the treatments appear to be, so far, successful.

Because it is quite new - this technology is not yet available everywhere.

What is Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)? LLLT is pulsed Infra Red coherent light. It is usually produced by a HeNe (Helium Neon) laser. The exact frequency, the duty cycle, the pulse rate, and the amount of time that the beam is focused upon the target, are the key parameters that affect the nature of the therapy. Thus, the parameters may be varied depending upon the target of the beam, then nature of the treatment, and the condition being treated.
