Part II - How to survive the ravages of a neuropathic disease - without incurring insanity
This week is a continuation of last week's article. The emphasis will be on the methods and procedures for "taking care of yourself" in order to survive the ravages of a neuropathic disease. The complete program for "Self-Treatment" to survive a neuropathic disease.
- Personal Care This was discussed last week.
- Diet Beneficial foods and foods to avoid - such as:.chocolate, caffeine, foods that affect Gout such as those that contain purines or pyrimidines. There are a number of interesting links for these two substances that have been recently discovered to be at the root of several diseases:
See the section below named Vitamins, Minerals, and Supplements for more information about a comprehensive diet in the paper named "A Multidisciplinary Approach to the Treatment of Diabetic Neuropathy". - Smoking While most women who suffer neuropathic disease smoke - the short term effects of smoking definitely exacerbates neuropathic pain, causes vasoconstriction and lowers the temperature of your extremities. While these effects are not permanent - your discomfort will be enhanced during the period of smoking and for a variable period of time following the completion of a cigarette. This interval of time for the after effects varies according to your physical state.
While not advocating the use of marijuana, it has been known to reduce neuropathic pain to the point of tolerance. The pain is sensed as heat instead of pain. The major caution here is that if you are allergic to marijuana, it could prove to be a disastrous experience. Further - if indeed - it is of some benefit, take heart that the least little bit of the drug is more than sufficient to ameliorate your pain. However - the effective amount required, may vary according to your physiology. For some - a little as one inhalation is sufficient to provide pain relief for many hours. In some states, like California (as of last year) there were Cannibis Clubs where one could purchase marijuana, if prescribed by a doctor. In most states - it is illegal to purchase marijuana, so be most careful. Be sure to get an unadulterated and pure product, else you could become very ill from tainted marijuana. A list of references for Cannibis Buyers Clubs and Marijuana follows:
