How to survive the ravages of a neuropathic disease

This is not to say that neuropathic disease are "all in one's head" as some doctors are inclined to claim. Neuropathic diseases are real enough - and are well documented. So it is a given - that such diseases exist. Existence of your disease is not the argument being presented here. The point of this is - that the major role that your brain plays is - when you suffer mental stress - your brain causes the generation of neurotoxins that exacerbate your pain. Thus - the first step in eliminating or reducing your neuropathic pain - is to avoid stress. Yes - this is easy to say and nearly impossible to do - but stress reduction must be attempted. There are some measures that can be taken to ameliorate stress that may not be easily avoided or reduced. This is where the notion of - "Taking Care of Yourself" enters the discussion. The goal is to minimize your pain. The following methods seem to achieve this goal - in part, as related by several people that I know personally - all of whom have neuropathic diseases.

Taking Care of Yourself - involves personal treatment of your body. Since the majority of sufferers of neuropathic diseases are women - I shall orient this discussion to them - the women. Most of this applies to men as well - but not in all cases. I shall indicate when the discussion does not appropriately apply to men.

The methods outlined below do work for the few individuals that I personally know. These are:
  1. Pamper yourself. Take a luxurious warm shower or bath. Use a scented body was gel. Of course - be careful to not incur more pain by using water that is either too hot or too cold. Be careful when using a rough washcloth on areas that are sensitive due to neuropathic disease. When finished, carefully dry yourself and then apply a scented moisturizing body lotion and use scented talcum powder as needed. It is best to have the gel, the lotion, and the talc - to all be of the same scent.

  2. A significant number of those who suffer from neuropathic disease - also suffer from hypoglycemia or low blood sugar. Perhaps this relationship has some significance - but the point being made here is to ensure that you do not go without proper nutrition by missing a meal - else you will suffer stress
