Author's Opening Note: This is a personal story - about a victim of RSD that has been thoroughly abused by our medical industry, including the Connecticut Workman's Compensation Board, and Several Doctors one of which is quite prominent and well known - nationally and internationally. This can happen to any one of you. And most likely - has already happened to many of you.
I dedicate this story to those of you patients:
The Story of Megan and her RSD This is a story about a young woman named Megan - in her middle 30s vibrant and full of life. She is working for her Ph.D. in a branch of Psychology that deals with crisis counseling. One day while at work - Megan slips and falls down a short flight of stairs - hurting her head, upper torso and severely damaging her ankle. After a few visits to the doctors RSD was diagnosed. At first - everything was exactly as one would expect it to be. Doctors - appearing to be doing their best to help the patient to heal and to beat the disease. The Workman's Compensation board - setting up all of the procedures to be observed and the approval of the necessary medications and appearing to be interested in securing and ensuring the comfort of the patient. It is the picture of harmony - all working together for the benefit of the patient. Well as time passes - it turns out not to be as one would think that it appeared to be. The doctors seem to make no headway at all with the treatment of the disease. And then - the medications being prescribed seem not to control the pain as well as they should. The doctors quickly run out of ideas and then begin to pass the patient off to yet other doctors. In the mean time - the Workman's Compensation board is quietly assessing the potential cost of the treatments for Megan. And it begins to look as though there may be no end to the medical costs. |
