WHAT TO DO TO DEFEND

As for family members that seem skeptical that there is anything wrong at all - is the need to educate both yourself and your family members. They need to be aware of the exactly what it is that you the patient experience, for there are many aspects to the neuropathic diseases. The mere fact that you have such a disease is in and of itself, quite devastating. There are the psychological aspects, the physical aspects, and the mental aspects of these diseases. The patient actually would benefit greatly from counseling for these diseases are crushing and demoralizing.

Thus - to begin with - a support group for your particular Neuropathy. RSD has several good groups - they are to be found worldwide and are found on the internet. It is mandatory to find out - what is my disease. What does it do? Is it curable? How does it manifest? What effects will it have on your family members? What role does the physical environment of the patient's home play? For when there issues that affect perambulation, one must consider stairs, and other obstacles. It may be best if the patient's bedroom is upstairs - to relocate it to the first floor - if possible.

The major goal is to win the support of your family. For they must know and must be sensitive to your situation and to be supportive. For you will require much support when dealing with the medical industry. For doctors and hospitals and insurance companies and workman's compensation boards will make your life miserable enough. It is as though they act in concert to demean, to maltreat, and to otherwise harass the patient. For what reason - escapes any logical thinking person. It is most brutal to be treated as these groups of people treat their patients.

DEALING WITH YOUR DOCTOR

One of the current methods of treatment for pain - that is most popular with most doctors - is to under-medicate the patient. For some fallacious reason - most doctors seem to think that the patient - by sheer willpower alone - is able to dispel the killer pain that is associated with all neuropathic diseases. This is pure myth at best. For subjugation to continual neuropathic pain is injurious to the nervous system. As pain stimuli are increased - the sensitivity to pain increases. After some time - the nervous system becomes conditioned to this constantly increasing pain. Permanent changes begin to occur in the central nervous system - rendering the patient permanently hypersensitive to pain.
