The Effects of the Patient Upon the State of the Disease

There is much anecdotal evidence regarding patients that have aggressively applied such "directed thinking" along with a comprehensive recovery program of physical therapy, proper diet, vitamins and supplements, and reduction of stress - that have been successful ranging from full to temporary remission.

To accomplish this "directed thinking" one may employ many different techniques. But whichever technique is employed - the object is three fold:

  • To reduce the pain
  • To remedy the disease
  • To reduce stress to zero
  • It is possible to assist in the reduction of the pain resulting from RSD. Of course - this requires conventional pain management techniques to be employed simultaneously. The goal is that over time - the need for assistance by means of analgesia will be lessened, as the patient becomes more proficient in the technique of directed thinking. The details of this procedure of directed thinking are beyond the scope of this current article but in a future article - a summary of these details will be presented and discussed along with some guidelines for establishing the effectiveness of a particular approach.

To reduce the pain - the patient must first understand the mediating factors that bring about the pain. These are: the underlying cause of the disease - vasoconstriction or reduced blood flow and hypoxia (oxygen starvation) of the nerves, bones, muscles, skin, and the microvascular system. So the first step would be to solve the vasoconstriction or blood flow problem. To do this - requires counteracting the reduced blood flow by inducing vasodilation. There are several products on the market that enable vasodilation - some of these are mentioned in the Multidisciplinary Approach to the Treatment of Diabetic Neuropathy - mentioned in earlier articles.

It would be well to plan the dietary and supplement part of the defense against RSD around this program. It is well thought out and well written. And the recommended programs are very clear, precise and easy to follow. The mental exercises that are to be employed by the patient should be performed every few hours throughout the day, every day - seven days a week. They are not strenuous and the benefits are many.

    THE MECHANICS OF THE EXERCISES

To perform the exercises - the patient must arrange to be in a subdued, quiet and undisturbed environment. Draw the shades or blinds and darken the room. Lie upon a comfortable surface - a bed or couch. Be relaxed. Take off shoes and any constraining clothing -
