Whitehouse Update - 5 weeks of no response to issue of the DEA crackdown on doctors that prescribe pain medication.

Author's Opening Note: More on the issue of the psycho-physiological connection. The program that is outlined below is purely experimental and is currently tested on a small number of patients. The testing is unscientific and is preliminary. The patients maintain logs indicating when and where and what exercises were performed and what results were obtained. If any of you are interested in participating - please indicate so by emailing me at the above email address.

INTRODUCTION

Some have said that RSD is "all in your head" when addressing patients that claim to suffer the effects of RSD. Well - perhaps to a slight degree in the sense that the disease affects the mental state of the patient as well as the patient being able to affect the disease. Doctors and other medical personnel that say this in a hurtful way are not mindful of the realities of the disease. However - it may be possible to affect the disease according to what is in the head of the patient.

MIND POWER - THE EFFECT UPON THE DISEASE

Presently - there are few studies regarding the effects the patient's mental state upon disease in general. However - there are many studies in which the "placebo effect" has been discussed and perhaps - examined. This placebo effect is certainly a verifiable manifestation of the mind-set of the patient acting upon the disease or trauma. The important issue here is - is it possible to identify the elements of this mental stance against the disease - and then teach or instruct patients in employment as an effective defense?

This is no mere - "I can think it away" defense. This mental attack must be well planned and well defined. It is to be a set of procedures and exercises that the patient must follow exactly as designed. This program of mental exercises must be designed to accomplish two major tasks:

  • To reduce the amount of pain and the effects of the pain
  • To establish a mind-set against the disease - in effect - to drive the disease from the patient's body
  • How does one effectively think the disease away or into remission? There are many different approaches to this problem that have been proposed over the years. Most may be categorized as "Positive Thinking". Some are based upon techniques of hypnotism. One may also be reminded here of "Brain Washing". In part - all of these techniques are used in the building of this mental defense against the disease.
