The Politics of Pain and the War on Drugs

© Les Abrams

Author's opening note: It appears from recent e-mail received by yours truly, and other current news that the Federal Government is cracking down on the War on Drugs by intimidating doctors that prescribe opioid drugs to people that suffer extreme pain. This recent tactic as implemented by the DEA seems to be working very well. We all can rest assured that these heinous crimes of these pain relief-seeking criminals will no longer threaten us (we the people) and we will now be safe from the results of their criminal activity. The action described below is currently taking place in the state of Oklahoma.

Here is the McGill Pain Index. The name Causalgia - is another name for RSD, one of the neuropathic diseases of the Peripheral Nervous System. This index is shown here to indicate exactly what the intensity of the pain is that those that suffer from this disease must contend with.

INTRODUCTION

Here is the link to the DEA home page. And here is the link to the DEA publications page.

Following is the first page of the Controlled Substances Act. The bolded, italicized item is intended to put all people that suffer pain and require the prescribed use of opioid drugs by a doctor, at ease.

TITLE 21. FOOD AND DRUGS

CHAPTER 13. DRUG ABUSE PREVENTION AND CONTROL

CONTROL AND ENFORCEMENT

INTRODUCTORY PROVISIONS

21 USCS Section 801 (1996)

Section 801. Findings and declarations

The Congress makes the following findings and declarations:

(1) Many of the drugs included within this title have a useful and legitimate medical purpose and are necessary to maintain the health and general welfare of the American people.

(2) The illegal importation, manufacture, distribution, and possession and improper use of controlled substances have a substantial and detrimental effect on the health and general welfare of the American people. . . .

Thus it is documented - by the DEA themselves - that they intend no harm to those that depend upon the use of these opioid drugs to survive - relatively pain free.

THE VOICES OF THOSE THAT SUFFER UNENDING PAIN

Here is a recent email posted to one of the numerous RSD support boards. It is plain to see that this person is being well covered by the highlighted declaration above. The verbatim email begins here:
