While most people think the summer is a fun time of year; this plus size girl wonders what’s fun about the summertime? The summer months are full of fun-filled activities like trips to the beach, backyard barbeques and vacations just to name a few. Activities that are not always size-friendly.
While others enjoy backyard barbeques with family, friends and neighbors, I wonder where will I sit? Picnic tables – you know the ones, with the seat attached to the table – just aren’t fat friendly. Sitting on a lawn chair requires the skill of an acrobat and the balance of a cat. If I actually manage to squeeze into one, I’m in it for the duration of the day. I’ll sit in that dreaded chair til the very end; until there is no one around to see that when I stand up the chair comes with me because it’s now semi-permanently attached to my butt. And even after the very last guest has gone home, there will still be a reminder that I was there that day. No, it’s not my grandmother’s award winning potato salad. It’s the craters my sinking chair created in the lawn. So maybe that’s not the worst thing those of us in the plus size world have to endure in the summer. I can certainly think of worse. Summer fashions have to top the list in my book. With the onset of summer, gone are the days of long, concealing winter coats and oversized bulky sweaters. Gone is the ability to conceal our flaws with clothing and here are the days of baring as much as possible to battle the heat. If you’re like me you’re not brave enough to “bare all” and you won’t find comfort in shorts, tank tops or bathing suits. Summer clothes are just too revealing for our less than perfect bodies. I actually find it more comfortable to be covered up than cool. So invite me to your next barbeque and I’ll show up wearing jeans and a top with sleeves, while everyone else is wearing shorts and tank tops. If you have a pool, you certainly won’t see me in it. Wear a bathing suit in front of strangers? And you thought I was crazy because I stood all day and never once sat down! Go To Page: 1
