Plus Size Fashions

Well Spring has sprung, so to speak. It is officially springtime and warmer weather is just around the corner. It's time to hang up the winter coats and pack away the winter clothes. For me it is a sad time of year - I much prefer the oversized big bulky clothing of winter to spring and summer fashions. Please take the poll on the welcome page of this site and let us know what your favorite season for fashions is!

No matter what weather or season you are shopping for, it isn't hard to find plus size clothing (sizes 16W and up ). It seems that the availability of clothes in plus sizes increases each year. Whether you prefer to shop in the stores, on-line or through catalogues, there is a wide array of shops that sell plus size clothing to meet all your shopping needs.

The pros of catalogue and on-line shopping include the convenience of shopping from home and being able to try on the items in the comfort of your own home. The cons of catalogue and on-line shopping are waiting for items to be shipped, shipping and handling charges and the inconvenience of having to return items that don't fit properly or that aren't what you expected.

Catalogue Shopping
If you are like me, you begin to receive the Spring Preview catalogues in the mail somewhere around Thanksgiving. First the frequency increases - then the number. It gets to a point where I receive one or two a day. Typically I toss them aside until it's time to think about clothes for the warmer weather. Who can think of bathing suits and shorts in the middle of winter? Of course if you live in a climate that is warm all year long, or if you are planning a vacation to a warmer climate, these catalogues would come in handy since they give you the opportunity to buy summer clothes in the middle of winter.

Two of the most popular catalogues for plus size fashions are Roaman's and Lane Bryant. Both carry a full selection of clothes including sportswear, bathing suits, eveningwear, lingerie, hosiery and shoes. Roaman's even has a bridal collection, which offers wedding gowns and formal attire. To request a catalogue call their toll free numbers: Roaman's 1-800-436-0800 and Lane Bryant 1-800-239-2000

J.C. Penney also includes a large selection of plus size clothing and plus size maternity wear in their semi-annual "Big Book". They also have specialty catalogues for plus sizes. (J.C. Penney also has a bridal catalogue that has some wedding gowns, bridesmaids dresses and formal attire in plus sizes). For a catalogue call 1-800-222-6161.

Hi--

I don't use the Lane Bryant catalog because the models are not at all reflective of the plus-size world. How do I know what that shirt is going to look like on me when the model is obviously ...
