It seemed an appropriate time to update some of the venues possible for scriptwriters to show off their works. Below is just a sampling of the possibilities open to writers. A thorough search of the Internet will yield even more, as will research in the annual Writer's Market publication.
Most of these are annual events, so if you miss this year's deadline, there will likely be another chance next year. Keep in mind that many of these will charge an entry fee. Read their submission guidelines carefully, and make sure that if you submit a play that it is the type of play they're looking for. Many of these may be looking for regional entries, a certain age group, or even certain ethnic backgrounds. Also notice that these are not limited to stage plays. Some of these links are also for screenplays. And the one-page playwriting competition is still alive (contact Cortland Jessup, Lamia Ink!, P.O. Box 202, Prince St. Station, New York City, NY10012). Print out your scripts, check the guidelines, and don't be afraid to cast your bread on the waters. You never know what may happen; somebody's script will need to be chosen, and it may just be yours. Many playwrights have supercharged their careers by winning contests - it can lead to great things. Go To Page: 1
