Sheet Music Online

One of the most common questions I get is: "Where can I get free sheet music on the web?"

My response is always: "I don't know of anywhere on the web that offers free sheet music." And, I don't believe any such site exists.

However, there are some sites that allow you to purchase sheet music on line. The next best thing!

PianoSpot has a giant inventory of piano music that you can search by title, composer, performer, and other criteria. My search for "Shreveport Stomp" found a collection of pieces that contained this piece. The price and number of pages in the book were shown. I also did searches on "Quincy Jones" (jazz composer), "Georg Philipp Telemann" (baroque composer), "Andrea Bocelli" (an Italian operatic singer), and "Gone With The Wind" (looking for music from the movie), and recieved several listings for each.

That's very cool, but I think an even better feature on this site is the telephone number. You can pick up your phone and call the company directly and talk to a human being who can answer any questions you have. Also, if you want to purchase by credit card, you can give your card number to that person instead of sending it out into cyberspace via the website. I think that feels a little safer.

This site also sells music accessories and music for other common instruments, and some not-as-common instruments, like the recorder and the harmonica. All searchable. I loved this site!

Schaum Publications Inc. I grew up with Schaum books, and I think they're very helpful for beginning pianists. Schaum has a series of graded books that feature different piano techniques, such as phrasing, staccato, etc., and simplified versions of well-known classics.

Their online store also offers a range of music in different styles such as boogie-woogie, classical, sacred and folk. And, there's a phone number as well.
