Waters of Forgetfulness - Chapter 2Over the next hour, the old woman experimented with her new physical freedom. She stretched and swirled around the room, trying out some dance steps that had long been denied her. She twisted and lifted legs one at a time. Then the big test: cautiously, she bent over and touched her toes, and then stood erect again. It worked! She could bend and straighten, bend and straighten, all she wanted! Finally, joyfully, she changed into her best clothes, getting ready to venture out into the village to see what things looked like to everyone else who had been able to see all along. As she was dressing, she began to think about the vial she had received and the "waters of forgetfulness" she had drunk. "How odd," she said out loud to herself. "I wonder why it's called the 'waters of forgetfulness.' I haven't forgotten anything at all! True, I no longer feel that I have the weight of the world on my shoulders, but still, I remember my life and the life of the village. I wonder what it could mean?" (continued at: Chapter 3)
