Physiotherapist's work is based on gross motor skills such as: muscle strength and endurance, joint motion, posture, balance, body mechanics and the function of the heart and lungs. Also we can supply our little patients with many ideas about home activities, daily tasks and recreational activities, and teach parents how will they perform it correctly.
Chest physiotherapy has one of the main roles in the pediatric rehabilitation. The aim is to try to prevent the lung secretions in small air tubes, but when it appears - mucus mobilization and elimination. Drainage and breathing exercise are the most common methods for the treatment of chronic lung disease. They facilitate movements of secretion, maintaining as better lung function as possible and they improve peripheral ventilation. Sometimes different active and passive techniques are used, which depend on the age of the child and available equipment. Our kids are exposed to heavy backpacks, which is not our fault, and to living mostly in sitting position; which is mostly our fault. Or maybe, in this computer age it's probably our great fortune and our great risk. Let's decrease risk of computer related injuries to our children. As a physical therapist and a mother of a two year old, I am interested in my son's spine. Bad posture could lead your child to a big problems with lower back, thoracic spine or neck, late in the life. Be a good parent and teach them how to use computer in proper way: start with use of the keyboard and mouse, encourage him for frequent breaks and together you could decide about game-playing time limitation. Your responsibility is to set up the computer, desk, chair and keyboard to suit your child, and also to install a smaller mouse that contours to the child's hand. And, friendly advice, make sure your child has enough time for outside activities, such as sport or just playing with other kids. Advice for parents Look carefully at what your physical therapist does because you will have to follow up with these skills at home, by yourself. Rehabilitation is long process and you'll do better to work with your child at home, as much as you can to raise the success rate of some therapeutic procedures. As a parent insist on the best treatment for your child. In a therapist look for a person who knows how to listen to you and your child and who has a hurt big enough not just for helping but also for loving. Go To Page: 1 2
